ICE's Biblical Propaganda Video is NOT Christlike

"I heard the voice of the Lord saying: 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?'"

Isaiah 6:8

In chapter 6 of the Book of Isaiah, the Lord calls upon Isaiah to serve Him, as we have all been called to serve Him today. When we think of serving the Lord, we think of spreading His word to those who may need to hear it. We think of showing love and service to those in need in order to show God's love through our actions. We think of gathering together to worship God, and follow his commandments: to honor the Lord, and to love thy neighbor.

In ICE's latest video, using the words of the prophet Isaiah, they represent the very opposite of these beliefs.

The video uses the call of Isaiah overlapped with footage of ICE agents patrolling rivers, flying in helicopters, looking for immigrants in order to arrest and deport them. The video ends quoting Isaiah's response to the Lord: "Here am I, send me!"

ICE takes the words of the prophet Isaiah and uses them to imply that hunting down immigrants is an act of serving God. One must remember that Leviticus commands us not to mistreat foreigners in our land. Over half of the people arrested by ICE have not been convicted of any crime, and over 90% have no history of violence. We can all agree that violent criminals ought to be arrested, but the majority of the people harassed and detained by ICE are not violent: They're just people who came to our land in search of a better life.

If we are called upon to serve the Lord, we must uphold his word. If the Lord commands us to treat foreigners in our land with kindness and compassion, then we must do so. Detaining non-violent people, many of whom are in fact legal citizens who were born here, and sending them to facilities where their rights are violated, is not an act of service to the Lord. When Isaiah asks the Lord to send him to do his bidding, this is not what he meant. The actions of ICE do not uphold the teachings of the Bible, and this video intentionally manipulates and misconstrues the words of the Bible to justify acts of violence which go against the Lord.
