ERIKA KIRK CHOSE FORGIVENESS FOR HER HUSBAND’S MURDERER

As believers, we know that our actions are our witness.

In the face of unimaginable grief, Erik Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow, offered a powerful testament to her faith. At her husband’s memorial service, Erika Kirk chose to forgive her husband’s killer.

With tears in her eyes, she proclaimed, “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”

With the whole world watching, Erika Kirk leaned into her faith. Remembering Jesus’ words on the cross, she publicly forgave her husband's shooter and said she knew Charlie would have too.

Her actions and words are a reflection of the strength we may only know by fully embracing Christ’s teachings. Her words reflected the very heart of the gospel.

In sharp contrast, President Trump openly rejected the biblical teachings held dearly by Erika and Charlie. He stated:

“[Charlie] did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them. That’s where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them. I am sorry, Erika. ”

Trump not only contradicted the gospel— he also disregarded the plea of a grieving widow. Instead of trying to heal our divided nation and honor Charlie Kirk, he doubled down on his own hatred for those he disagrees with.

Instead of turning to Christ, Trump took inspiration from the verse he has said is his favorite in the Bible, “and eye for an eye.”
