OUR CONGRESS IS CHRISTIAN–NOW WE ASK THEM TO ACT LIKE IT
“Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”
–Matthew 7:17-20
According to Pew Research, 88% of members of Congress identify as Christians. These men and women set our policies and lead our nation—but are they acting like true Christians?
The Bible tells us we will know Christians by their fruits.
And yet—the daily actions coming out of Congress are directed by greed, anger, gluttony, pride, sloth, envy and lust. It’s to the point now that many Americans don’t even consider their behavior scandalous or depraved—it’s just par for the course.
We saw it during the shameless power grab during the vote for House Speaker in January 2023. We see sloth in our leaders who skip votes without reason. And we see it in their pride and refusal to compromise for the good of the American people.
Though their actions are commonplace, it does not make them any more right.
Arguments get physical on House Floor ahead of vote to elect new Speaker in January 2023.
As Christians first and faithful citizens to our great nation, we implore our Senators and Congresspeople who claim to be Christian to live out our shared values.
The American people are watching.
